ARTA 602 | 2-D Computer Animation | 3 | School of Arch & Design |
Introduction to the fundamental concepts of cell animation while utilizing contemporary digital technologies. Students will develop storyboards to determine the design of characters, scenes, and action with various 2-D animation software programs. Emphasis will be directed toward understanding main key frame development and tweening procedures to produce movement as practiced by traditional animators. |
|||
ARTA 701 | 3-D Computer Modeling and Animation | 3 | School of Arch & Design |
A survey of the fundamental concepts of three dimensional modeling and animation. Topics include 3D modeling, texturing, lighting, rendering, and basic animation techniques. Students will create several animations duringg the semester. |
|||
ARTA 752 | Advanced 3-D Computer Modeling and Animation | 3 | School of Arch & Design |
A continuation of Introduction to 3-D Computer Modeling and Animation. Advanced techniques are presented, with an emphasis on self-directed creative work. |
|||
ARTA 801 | Concept & Visual Storytelling | 3 | School of Arch & Design |
This course covers the basic essentials for the making of great characters and great stories. Topics include concept and treatment documents, character documents, costume design, set design, stories and storytelling, plot, timing, scripts, storyboards, and much more. Students design their own characters, stories, and storyboards. |
|||
ARTA 802 | Advanced Concept, Character and Storyboard Development | 3 | School of Arch & Design |
A continuation of Concept, Character, and Storyboard Development. Students continue to develop concepts through the creation of more advanced characters and the production of storyboards of greater complexity and interest. |
|||
ARTA 803 | Visual Communication and Emerging Tech | 3 | School of Arch & Design |
This class is designed to teach students the conceptual and practical approaches to designing interfaces, layouts, and navigation systems for computer and human interaction. Based on traditional design principles, students will explore the unique requirements of interactive formats, such as web pages, mobile applications, games, and immersive environments utilizing AR/VR/MR/XR. The ever-expanding possibilities will not only change the functionality of interactive platforms but also require designers and developers to research human interaction with emerging technologies, perception, and emotional response and to develop artistic solutions that best support the user experience. Students will study the theoretical foundations, design a variety of example projects, and further research new forms of visual communication. The goal is to learn design and research principles enabling students to systematically research and develop future artistic and technical approaches while interactive and immersive platforms rapidly evolve. |

ARTA 851 | Character Animation | 3 | School of Arch & Design |
This course covers advanced 3D animation techniques for animating biped characters in 3 dimensions. This course covers the basic tools and techniques employed in 3-D animation to give characters believable movement. Building on basic mechanics students will explore more complex animation techniques. They will also utilize dialouge to create more expressive characters. Topics include planning, body mechanics, and facial animation to achieve believable movement for 3D characters. Prerequisite Course(s): Prerequisite: ARTA 752 |
|||
ARTA 852 | Advanced Character Animation | 3 | School of Arch & Design |
A continuation of Character Animation This course is continued study in Advanced Character Animation. Building on body mechanics an basic acting skills explored in ARTA 851. Students will explore more complex animation techniques, such as quadruped animal movement and two-person dialogue. In this course, there is a strong focus on character animation. |
|||
ARTA 861 | Animation Studio | 3 | School of Arch & Design |
Animation Studio is designed for advanced animation students to carry out independent computer animation projects of their own design, with an emphasis on self-directed creative work. Students should be equipped with the appropriate knowledge of computer animation by the time they enter this course. Content for the animation is selected by the student under guidance of the professor. |
