EDTR 608 | Training Practitioner Skills, Strategies, and Techniques | 3 | College of Arts & Sciences |
This course develops trainer skills through study and practice of a broad range of training session activities including: formal presentations, interactive discussion, role playing, case study, simulation, facilitation and distance learning. Students will use video and other media and modifications of package activities and explore the use of computers and related technologies in training. |

EDTR 609 | Instructional Systems Design | 3 | College of Arts & Sciences |
Participants are introduced to systems approach, or ISD. Classwork applies scientific method to training development to be sure programs are comprehensive in scope, yet lean in execution. Each student will select a specific training need and then develop a systematic training design through careful front end analysis of training needs, tasks performed and learner population. Media and techniques appropriate to a given setting are chosen. Participants complete all aspects of program design, including analysis described, construction of training objectives, evaluation measures and budgets. At course completion, each student will have a blueprint for training for implementation in EDTR 659. |

EDTR 668 | Computer Courseware Design for Training and Learning Applications | 3 | College of Arts & Sciences |
Each student selects an instructional training system for design and development in computer based format for a particular equipment configuration as the final course output. Projects include individual and design team approaches for planning and producing documentation required for commercial development of the lesson. Participants will use an authoring system to develop. Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) courseware. Class sessions feature lecture, small group meetings, group discussion and individual project related effort. The instructor will use individualized coaching to assist students. |

EDTR 670 | Mobile Learning | 3 | College of Arts & Sciences |
Candidates will apply concepts, theories and techniques to design and develop mobile learning environments. The course includes four unites: (1) survey of current mobile learning technologies, (2) examining the connection to learning theories and the theoretical foundation of ubiquitous learning, (3) exploring the interface design considerations of mobile training modules, and (4) design a mobile device based training module. Candidates will apply the instructional design process to plan, design, develop, implement and evaluate a complete mobile-based instruction that maximizes teaching and learning. EDTR 671 | Gaming and Virtual Reality Learning Environments | 3 | College of Arts & Sciences |
Candidates will explore theories of game-based learning environments, including educational games, training games, simulations and virtual reality learning environments. The course topics include three units: examine game based learning theories, research learning effectiveness of game-based learning environments, evaluate and implement games, simulation and VR for learning. The course uses a hands-on approach to guide candidates to apply the instructional design process to plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate a game-based learning environment. EDTR 673 | Collaborative Learning Spaces | 3 | College of Arts & Sciences |
Candidates will be introduced to ways online collaboration can empower organizations and positively impact training delivery modes and outcomes. Candidates will explore, customize and implement cloud applications for organizations of any size. Projects include the use of virtual messaging and collaboration tools and applications. Candidates will also design and apply the blogs, wikis, discussion forums and web albums within collaborative learning spaces for effective training approaches. |

This course is an exploration of the global aspects of training. The course is designed for candidates who are: currently in the international field who want to broaden their understanding; seeking a career field, and want to consider international work; employed by international organizations and agencies, but seek a broader view in training and development with a global perspective; and others who are interested in any aspect of training programs outside the U.S. |

EDTR 690 | Assessment and Evaluation Methods | 3 | College of Arts & Sciences |
Candidates explore selected forms of quantitative and qualitative methodologies used for conducting needs assessment and evaluation of training. Strengths and weaknesses of each approach will be analyzed. Candidates will learn about resources for designing, developing and implementing the evaluation and measurement of training. Focus will be on measuring Return on Investment (ROI) of training. Specific topics include: planning, data collection methods, data analysis, and communication of results. Special attention is devoted to methods of assessing learning outcomes. Candidates complete the course by preparing a detailed proposal to conduct training needs assessment in a specific organizational context. |

EDTR 692 | E-Learning Environment for Global Training | 3 | College of Arts & Sciences |
Candidates will apply concepts, theories and techniques to design and develop eLearning modules in both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments. Learning management systems, open source, social networks, and other formats for online learning will be explored. Candidates will also discover how to modify their existing training approaches to engage learners in an online environment. Candidates will use an instructional design process to plan, design, develop, implement, evaluate and modify web-based instruction to promote interactive online teaching and learning for all types of learners and organizations. Tools designed in previous courses will be used in the development of an eLearning course module. Prerequisite Course(s): Prerequisite: EDTR 609 and EDTR 690 |

EDTR 696 | Independent Study in Training and Learning Technology | 3 | College of Arts & Sciences |
On the basis of an independent study proposal approved by the program office, participants may pursue advanced study in :Computer applications, instructional media production or e-learning systems. Learning outcomes are set forth in a learning contract including measures of evaluation; the content and level of this course must be beyond existing course offerings. |
