This 2 week course is designed to give students an introduction to the practice of medicine. The student will complete reading assignments; online technology mediated learning assignments, and self-assessments. The course will focus on medical documentation, writing orders, communication skills, patient safety issues, and diagnostic errors. The student will learn fundamentals of medicolegal issues, risk management and aspects of medical billing and coding. |

This 2 week course is designed to give the student an opportunity to review clinical medicine and to complete self-assessments for standardized cognitive exams. The course delivery mode will encompass a combination of live and online content. The course will culminate with a TIMED COMSAE, to be taken at the end of the course, and is required in order to receive a grade in this course. |

This 4- week clerkship allows military students to acquire necessary training and professional development skills and to gain an appreciation for the role of military medicine within the broader US public health system. Emphasis includes professionalism, leadership, cultural competence, and interpersonal and communication skills. The student will participate in diverse learning activities including didactic sessions and experiential workshops. A certificate of completion will be provided by the military. |

These four-week clerkships allow students to acquire clinical experience in community health settings. Emphasis is on gaining an appreciation of community resources, patient education and preventive health. The role of psychological, economic, cultural, ethnic, environmental/ecological, and political factors influencing the incidence and treatment of specific diseases encountered by students in the community is incorporated. |

This four-week clerkship allows students the opportunity to work in a hospital or community based quality assurance office. Students gain experience in monitoring the provision of quality health care from the institutional perspective, including utilization reviews and managed care policies. |

This four-week elective clerkship in a managed care setting is designed to give selected students an introduction to managed care and administrative medicine. The student will attend daily instruction and interaction at the managed care company's home office. The student will learn how managed care operates, the business aspects of medicine and insight into the medical coverage decision-making process. |

This elective four-week clerkship allows students to participate in the field of medical jurisprudence. Assignment to the medical unit of a legal firm gives students exposure to the process of medical litigation as well as experience in general areas of health care law. |

This four-week clerkship provides students with an opportunity to focus on the care of the female patient. The student will work side by side with a multidisciplinary team of physicians and medical professionals in an ambulatory care setting. Particular emphasis will be made in the issues unique to the female patient, breast health, and a comprehensive approach to care. Prevention, screening and treatment with exposure to community outreach, patient education, and supportive services will be highlighted. |

We will be exploring medical informatics~ bioinformatics and information technology as key components of today's personalized healthcare system. Personalized and patient center healthcare starts with electronic health records, which make complete and current patient information available when and where it is needed. Furthermore, informatics and information technology help clinicians and healthcare providers to make complex information useful in supporting clinical decisions, thus delivering the best standard of care for each patient. |

This four-week clerkship provides students with an opportunity to work with specialists in occupational medicine. Approved settings may include industrial/ corporate health centers or preceptors specializing in occupational health problems. |

This 2-week elective course is designed to introduce the student to the concept of patient safety. In addition to the students learning medical knowledge to understand the mechanism of disease, how to obtain and perform appropriate physical exams, developing sound medical reasoning skills they also need to learn the importance of safety in delivering good quality healthcare. Through the use of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Open School, the student will gain insight into patient safety, quality improvement, triple aim for populations, leadership and person-centered care. This is accomplished through self-paced module-based instruction. The modules are divided into two levels: introductory concepts for health care audiences and intermediate concepts and specialized topic areas. The course also includes scheduled times for review of the patient safety literature with resultant on-line board discussions through Google Classroom. |

The NYIT- College of Osteopathic Medicine at Old Westbury Congressional Health Policy Elective is purposed to equip and train rising leaders to transform health, health care and health policy at the local, state and national level. Upon completion of this elective, the student will bring a depth of expertise and knowledge about population health to the policymaking making process. Students will be able to collaborate with legislative offices in the surveillance of health, the analysis of all policy as it effects social determinates of health and work on funding opportunities for health policy initiatives. The Congressional Health Policy Elective will help the osteopathic medical student learn and utilize their skill in health policy to enhance the osteopathic medical field. |

This course introduces students to the core principles of Al and Machine Learning as applied to Medical Diagnostics. It includes directed readings and video presentations to build a robust foundation in Al applications within the medical field. The course introduces various Al tools and libraries, guiding students through their use in medical data analysis, including image classification, anomaly detection, and predictive modeling. The course starts with the basics and gradually advances towards practical applications, enabling learners to diagnose a variety of medical conditions effectively using diverse types of medical data. No textbook is required as all information is available online. |
