This course provides theoretical knowledge and practical experiences in the study of exercise science, fitness assessment and prescription, nutritional elements associated with exercise, and applied concepts of well-being, and heathy lifestyle changes. Application of exercise and fitness are directly related to health care providers for those who have training in Osteopathic Medicine, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies and Physical Therapy. |

This is the second course in the Certificate in Nutrition, Exercise, and Well-Being for students in the College of Osteopathic Medicine and the School of Health Professions. NEXW 603 | Independent Experiential Project | 3 | College of Osteopathic Med |
The purpose of the independent experiential project is to introduce basic investigative and observational skills to physician and health profession trainees, and to identify needs assessment for lifestyle modification for their patient population. Students will be responsible for preparing a project identifying the nutrition and exercise area, issue or health problem’s significance. For the duration of the semester, the student will develop and institute a plan of implementation on their project about how their education in nutrition and exercise can improve patient outcomes. At the conclusion of the semester, the student will be required to write a formal case or project report to describe the problem, the significance of the issue, and identify all preventative health strategies that may address, mitigate or solve the problem. Students may work on the projects individually or in assigned groups. Individuals or groups may have the opportunity to implement their proposals with cooperation and approval of the host practicum site or to present their work at a major national symposium or conference. Minimal Requirement for Qualification: Students have successfully completed both the Nutrition and Well-Being and the Exercise and Well-Being courses. |
