MTPS 710 Clinical Clerkship: Psychiatry 5 College of Osteopathic Med
This five-week clerkship provides students with opportunities to evaluate psychiatric patients through diagnostic interviewing and conduct of mental status exams. Emphasis is on the role of psychiatry in primary care: i.e., the identification of psychiatric problems in general medical practice. Students gain experience in the indications for major psychopharmacological agents, psycho- logical interventions, DSM-IV classifications, and substance abuse management—all within a broad biopsychosocial framework.

MTPS 710A Psychiatry 4 College of Osteopathic Med
This 4-week clerkship provides students with opportunities to evaluate psychiatric patients through diagnostic interviewing and conduct of mental status exams. Although primarily hospital based, emphasis is also placed on the role of psychiatry in primary care: i.e., the identification of psychiatric problems in general medical. Students gain experience in the indications for major psychopharmacological agents, psychological interventions, DSM-IV classifications and substance abuse management-all within a broad biopsychosocial framework. Students also gain understanding of psychiatry as a medical specialty that diagnosis and treats disorders of the brain and mind.

MTPS 711 Clinical Clerkship: Psychiatry 4 College of Osteopathic Med
This 4-week clerkship provides students with opportunities to evaluate psychiatric patients through diagnostic interviewing and mental status exams. Experiences include but are not limited to hospital based psychiatric care. Emphasis is also given to the role of psychiatry in primary care: i.e., the identification of psychiatric problems in general medical practice. MTPS 801 Clinical Clerkship: Adolescent Psychiatry 4 College of Osteopathic Med
This four-week clerkship provides students with an opportunity to work on an adolescent psychiatry service of an approved teaching hospital. Emphasis is on conducting comprehensive evaluations of new patients, formulating differential diagnoses and conducting combined pharmacologic and psycho- therapeutic management of patients in ambulatory and inpatient settings.

MTPS 802 Clinical Clerkship: Child Psychiatry 4 College of Osteopathic Med
This four-week elective clerkship provides students with an opportunity to work on a child psychiatry service of an approved teaching hospital. Emphasis is on evaluating new patients, formulating differential diagnoses and conducting combined pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic interventions in the ambulatory and inpatient settings.

The major purpose of the rotation is to facilitate the transition from student clerk to intern.

MTPS 805 Clinical Clerkship: Behavioral Pain Management 4 College of Osteopathic Med
This four-week elective clerkship allows students to work with psychiatric specialists in the field of pain management. Emphasis is on evaluation and multidisciplinary management of chronic pain conditions through behavioral interventions (such as biofeedback, hypnosis, relaxation therapies).

MTPS 807 Clinical Clerkship: Neuropsychiatry 4 College of Osteopathic Med
This four-week elective clerkship allows students the opportunity to work in the neuropsychiatry service of a teaching hospital. Emphasis is on the interface of psychiatry and neurology, with an integration of biochemical and psychosocial support for major problems in ambulatory and inpatient settings.

MTPS 808 Clinical Clerkship: Detoxification I 4 College of Osteopathic Med
This four-week clerkship allows students to gain experience in an addiction medicine service of an approved teaching hospital. Emphasis is on the comprehensive management of patients undergoing detoxification of drugs and alcohol - from admission through discharge. Multidisciplinary team treatment and referral to community resources is incorporated.

MTPS 809 Addiction Medicine 4 College of Osteopathic Med
This four-week course is designed to familiarize students with drug addiction and the addicted population. Students will become familiar with the basic concepts involved with Addiction Medicine, and will become educated in the identification of addiction, the neurobiology of addiction, and the treatment of addiction. They will also become familiar with the addicted population as a whole. Students will master the individual drugs of addiction, their mechanism of action, and how the brain responds to these drugs. They will understand the changes that take place in the brain that lead to addiction, and will learn to understand the addicted mind and alcoholism. In addition, students will learn how to obtain a waiver in order to treat opiate addicts with Buprenorphine, and will learn how they, too, can become Board Certified in Addiction Medicine.

MTPS 810 Clinical Clerkship: Telepsychiatry 4 College of Osteopathic Med
The student will be exposed to live patient contact via telemedicine. This platform will allow students to be present during a psychiatric evaluation or follow up visit. This is envisioned to allow the 4th year student to obtain a hands-on, interactive psychiatric experience through telemedicine. The student will be paired remotely with a psychiatrist in various clinical settings; hospital in-patient, emergency department, outpatient clinics and private practice. The student will be expected to shadow the psychiatrist via telemedicine and gain clinical skills in navigating a patient who presents with psychiatric symptoms. The course will offer a 4-week timeline during which the student will be exposed to four specialty areas of focus- child and adolescent, adult, geriatric, and addiction psychiatry.

The Addiction Medicine Elective is for medical students with an interest in learning the complexities of seeing and treating patients with addiction. This rotation will provide an overview of the basics of addiction medicine which covers how to screen, diagnose, treat and/or refer patients with addiction. Clinical cases and discussions will be led by addiction medicine specialists, students will gain practical knowledge and an understanding of evidence-based approaches that demonstrate there are solutions available to help patients with addiction.
