Job Offer Scams In Email – Be Aware
On April 23, a job offer scam was emailed to New York students. Information Technology Services pulled this scam email back relatively quickly, but not before 11 students had already responded.
Please be ALERT to any job offer emails to check for scams. How do you know if an unexpected job offer is a scam?
The job offer email is:
- Unsolicited
- Generic sounds too good to be true
- Usually have spelling or grammar errors
- Usually does not mention the company name
- Asks you for a credit card or personal information
- Offers you a check or a payment for no effort on your part
If you receive a job offer email or are a victim of a scam, report the incident to ITS Information Security at infosec@nyit.edu.
Attention Graduating Students:
- If you are graduating in May 2024, you may have the opportunity to wear honor or leadership cords.
- Honor cords can be purchased by graduates who qualify. The silver braided honor cord, worn draped from the neck on the front of the gown, designates the wearer as Summa Cum Laude (institutional GPA of 3.95-4.00), Magna Cum Laude (institutional GPA of 3.75-3.949), and Cum Laude (institutional GPA of 3.50-3.749). Qualifying graduates may purchase a cord until May 10. Cords ship within 48 hours of placing an order.
