The goal of this course is to introduce students to the structure and design phases as related to articulation of an interior environment of sizable scale from 20,000 to 40,000sf. A key component will include the understanding of facilities program requirements report and implementation of space planning concepts into a corporate interior. Initial focus will be on research, analysis of site and client program, given floor plate(s), furniture systems and layouts, resulting in a schematic design that employs basic design concepts around a central idea. The project will then move to design development where students will refine their ideas, select materials, lighting and furnishings, down to the fine detail. The primary consideration encompasses ergonomics, sustainability, project management and communication. The last component will be developing construction documents as instructed, incorporating means of egress and application of UBC requirements.
