Charles Matz is an associate professor of architecture and interior design and director of the Center of Excellence in Data Visualization, Entertainment, and Education Engineering at New York Tech. A member of the American Institute of Architects and the Royal Institute of British Architects, Matz is a certified interior designer and principal of Charles Matz Architect PC. He is also a partner of Crucible Press, LLC, and Crucible Arts Project Consulting Group.

Prior to joining New York Tech, Matz worked for the late Michael Jackson as producer, creative director, designer, and logistics expert. As in-house architect for the board of the Princeton University Club, he participated in over twenty major renovations and new works over a period of fifteen years, including renovations at the university's Engineering Quadrangle, where projects have included the Graduate Student Center and Deans' Executive Wing, lecture halls, and laboratories.

Among Matz's clients are HRH the Prince of Wales, Musée du Louvre, Château de Versailles, the New York Stock Exchange, Sony (with more than 150 broadcast media, stage, and music productions), J. Walter Thompson Advertising, BBDO, Mobil Research and Development Corporation, Viacom, Disney, the National Gallery Prague, and the Foundation for the History of Photography at Fratelli Alinari (Florence). Matz developed manufacturing and graphic brand strategies and participated in construction planning of global corporate projects, including environmental graphics efforts.

Applying his multidisciplinary approach to the field of hospitality and retail design, Matz authored the master plan/renewal strategy, and acted as owner's chief architect, for the renovation and branding efforts at the Princeton and Columbia Clubs of New York, as well as at the historic New York social club The Cosmopolitan.

Matz's research at New York Tech focuses on 3-D data visualization for built works. He has laser scanned (using LIDAR technology-light detection and ranging) the medieval walled city of Jugol Harar in Ethiopia, a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as multiple heritage sites in Italy.

Matz grew up in Venice, Italy, and New York City, where he earned a bachelor of architecture from The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. He also has a post-graduate diploma in strategy and innovation from the University of Oxford.
