Deborah Y. Cohn, Ph.D. earned her MBA from New York Tech in 1989. In 2009 when she returned as a marketing faculty, she felt like she was coming home. She was appointed as interim dean of the university's School of Management in 2021. Her previous roles include tenured professor of marketing, associate dean of faculty affairs, chair of School Personnel Committee, member of the School's Impact committee, and Director of its Professional Enrichment (PE) Program. Before joining the university in 2009, she spent 12 years in academia at various business schools in the U.S.

Cohn stepped into the role of dean during the pandemic and is known for providing leadership and support for faculty, students, and staff. She is leading the school through the process of accreditation maintenance and compliance with AACSB standards. Furthermore, she is responsible for strategic planning, curriculum, administration of operations including enrollment, retention, and budget. Her endeavors strive to attain an inclusive and supportive environment for student learning. Cohn represents the school in various external and internal relations activities.

A dynamic, well-respected educator, Cohn engaged students and colleagues in numerous ways. For example, she organizes and coordinates more than 100 PE seminars annually by featuring industry professionals, adjuncts, advisory board members, and alumni in support of student learning. She is most proud of her work as executive producer of the SOM Podcast – In Reality: Lessons from Leaders and Entrepreneurs. She also has secured several high-quality, widely recognized peer-reviewed journal articles, for example in Journal of Consumer Satisfaction, Dissatisfaction and Complaining Behavior, Journal of Business Research, and International Journal of Internet Marketing and Advertising. She collaborates with researchers at many universities and presents at academic conferences and workshops around the world.

Cohn has secured several grants with colleagues including a Fulbright-Hays Program Grant Academia and Society – Collaboration Across Borders: A Virtual Exchange Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Consulate of São Paulo, Brazil (2020), and International Study of Israel and the U.S. of Digital Social Media in the Workplace Mallah Family Foundation grant (2019). She completed several approved industry and service-learning projects with evidenced impact, working with Casa de Spin Paint Parlor and Clay Art Workshop, both on Long Island. Honors include the New York Tech Presidential Award for Student Engagement, Outstanding Contribution in Reviewing from Elsevier Journal of Business Research, and the Commitment to Marketing Award from Mu Kappa Tau – National Marketing Honor Society.

Cohn volunteers with Footsteps, Marketing Edge, and the Queens Career Connect Central Queens YM&YWHA, among other organizations.

Cohn earned a Ph.D. from City University of New York at Baruch College (1997), an MBA from New York Tech School of Management in 1989, and Bachelor of Arts from the University at Albany in 1984. She attended Undergraduate Study Abroad Program at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Her degrees in marketing, business, and interdisciplinary studies of religion underlie her support for strong and diverse educational experiences that strengthen academic programs.
