Now retired from the New York City Department of Education, Mark Gura was a classroom teacher for 17 years, a staff and curriculum developer for five, and a central office administrator (Division of Curriculum and Instruction), where he supervised professional and curriculum development as the head of the Office of Performance Standards (ELA, Science, and Math) and the Office of Instructional Technology.
Gura has written and published 13 books for teachers (English Language Arts, Social Studies, Instructional Technology, Visual Art), numerous articles on Education for Converge, T.H.E. Journal, Ed Tech K–12/Ed Tech Higher Ed, and other magazines, He also wrote the “Science FUNomena” weekly feature for students for the New York Daily News for three years and was the co-producer of The Teachers Podcast and the Talking Financial Literacy Education podcast (sponsored by McGraw Hill) for five years. He is currently president of the Literacy Special Interest Group of ISTE and produces/hosts its podcast and edit its journal, both titled Literacy Special Interest.
