Peter Dane earned his B.S. in Pre-Professional Studies from the University of Notre Dame and a D.O. from Michigan State University College, then completed a traditional rotating internship at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. After spending two years with the National Health Service Corps as a primary care physician in Vermont, he practiced emergency medicine in Idaho and became certified in that specialty by the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine and the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
In 1979, Dane joined the faculty of the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine while maintaining the full-time practice of emergency medicine. In 1993, he was appointed Assistant Dean for Curriculum and was instrumental in guiding the development and implementation of two major curricular revisions, one problem-based and one clinical presentation-based. In 2004, he became Associate Dean for Pre-Doctoral Education, overseeing the entire four-year medical education program. In 2010, Dane returned to his native New England and joined the faculty and administration of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. In that role, he was responsible for guiding the revision of the four-year medical school curriculum.
In 2015, he joined NYITCOM as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
