With over 35 years of construction, design, and project delivery experience, Peter Tymus has specialized in delivering a diverse portfolio of building projects. He has used his education and industry experience to the benefit of major clients, ranging from the American Bible Society, Bank of America, Canon, Deloitte, Jones Beach Theater, Mercedes Benz, Jewish Home and Hospital, Symbol Technologies, and the European Common Market, as well as for students at both New York Tech and LIU Brooklyn teaching aspiring industry professionals.
In addition to teaching courses at New York Tech, Tymus created and taught a complete 120-hour certificate course in Building Construction for LIU Brooklyn’s School of Continuing Education in 2009.
Tymus received his B.E. from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1981, and graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School’s Structural Program with Merit in 1975. Additionally, he completed 2,950 hours of industry education with Turner Construction. In 1993, Peter successfully completed the requirements for a NYC SSF license.
Recent Projects/Research
- School of Nursing – LIU Brooklyn – $5 Million; 25,000 gsf:Total Project Development and Delivery– From initial conceptual budgeting and scheduling in order to solicit a major donor’s contribution through to complete project delivery including pre-construction, design, construction, F,F&E and operational move in; oversaw and was responsible for the entire project.
- Madison Square Garden Transformation – $1 Billion – 1 Million gsf: Project Executive for the second phase encompassing spring, summer and fall of 2012. Responsible for all construction operations from 5pm through 5am for the upper portion complete gut and reconstruction of the arena and infrastructure systems. Oversaw implementation of a $22 Million per month construction schedule. This work was as an employee of Turner Construction in addition to responsibilities at LU with the approval of LIU.
- Student Housing at 490 Fulton Street – LIU Brooklyn – $11.5 million; 120,000 gsf: Total Project Development and Delivery– From initial conceptual budgeting and scheduling through to occupancy and operational move in; oversaw and was responsible for this gut renovation conversion from mercantile change of use building project which resulted in the creation of 200 beds of apartment style residential graduate student housing units.
- Steinberg Wellness Center – LIU Brooklyn – $45 Million; 112,500 gsf: Total Project Development and Delivery - From suggesting the eventual building site to selection of the design team through pre-construction to construction, equipping, furnishing, populating and operational occupancy; lead university person responsible for the project. The largest single project in the history of LIU; this building is considered the flagship building in the university’s inventory and serves as a major recruiting tool for the university’s NCAA Division 1 Athletic Programs as well as a major community use facility for the downtown Brooklyn community.
- Tilles Center for the Performing Arts – LIU Post, Brookville, NY – $10 Million; 30,000 gsf: Lead university person responsible for delivering this conceptually designed project from pre-construction through construction through to operational occupancy and grand opening without allowing for any performance cancellations. This project, which had to be complete during off-season in order to eliminate any season subscriber cancellations, was delivered on an extremely aggressive schedule.

- Presented the University’s Trustee oversight committees, Faculty Senate; University Officers and the Full Board of Trustees.
- University’s principal representative at the April 2010 Campus Development Summit in Phoenix Arizona.
- University’s representative for Real Estate and Construction on the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, the BQE Revitalization Committee and the NYC Office of Economic Development’s Higher Education Initiative Committee.
