Title: Assistant Professor

Department: Biological and Chemical Sciences

Campus: Long Island

Area(s) of Expertise: Organic and Medical Chemistry

Education Credentials: Ph.D.

Joined New York Tech: 2023

Subhabrata Chaudhury, Ph.D., is an organic chemist. His research is focused on developing small molecule-based therapeutics for several diseases including cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer's disease. He has developed several small molecule inhibitors that are selective for Hsp90-beta (Hsp90-β) isoform. Hsp90-β is a biological target in cancer chemotherapeutics. Chaudhury has also worked on the scalable synthesis of various small molecules that are potent and selective estrogen receptor-β (ERβ) agonists as potential drug candidates for depression, anxiety, and dementia associated with menopausal women. Some of these molecules are in pre-clinical trials. His industrial experience comes from working as a team leader (medicinal chemistry) in oncology and virology.

Chaudhury's training in organic synthesis was at the Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur (M.Sc.), and then at Marquette University (Ph.D.) as a student. He worked as a researcher in several institutes including the University of Kansas, the Medical College of Wisconsin, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Notre Dame. He was also a visiting assistant professor at Marquette University. Chaudhury serves as a peer reviewer for several chemistry and medicinal chemistry journals.
