His activities in these organizations include serving at the ACOFP House of Delegates, the New York State ACOFP Society, and the Osteopathic Principles and Practice Subcommittees on Teaching Resources and Webinars and Workshops (again for the ACOFP). In addition to these contributions to his discipline, Flaum has worked as a COMLEX Development Item Writer for the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners.

Flaum has volunteered his time as a table trainer at numerous CME programs, including several workshops at annual conventions of the ACOFP. He was one of the participating physicians featured in the March 2011 JAOA cover article on the “Impact of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment on Secretory Immunoglobulin A Levels in a Stressed Population.”

At the Adele Smithers Parkinson’s Disease Treatment Center, Flaum has been active in outreach programs, collaborating from 2009–2011 with the Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra Benefit Concert to enhance awareness of Parkinson's disease and of its treatment with OMM. Flaum has also participated in multiple high school career fairs. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, where he provided leadership as an Assistant Scoutmaster.
