Welcome to New York Tech!
As adjunct faculty members, you play a vital role in shaping the educational experiences of our students and contributing to their success. We look forward to working alongside you and witnessing the positive impact you will undoubtedly make in the lives of our students.

Below is helpful information to get started in your new role.
Get Connected
If you haven’t already, you should receive an email from Information Technology Services, with information about accessing our systems, within 3–5 days of completing your new hire paperwork with Human Resources. If you do not receive the email within that timeframe, please contact the department representative who facilitated your hiring process.
Online Systems
We use the following systems for course delivery, student interaction, and attendance tracking. You will receive an invitation to an online Canvas course titled “Adjunct Faculty Resource Hub,” which offers detailed instructions for each platform, along with resources to support both you and our students.
Canvas
Canvas is the Learning Management Systems (LMS) that New York Tech uses to offer online courses to our students. It is a powerful platform with a variety of features, from content delivery to assessment. It allows you to design and deliver content organized in a variety of structures; to link to or house materials such as PDFs, videos, and web pages; to create activities for students to complete, such as discussion boards and assignments; and to conduct knowledge checks and assessments.
View our Canvas Resources.
For further assistance, you can contact Academic Technology Services.
Faculty Center
The Faculty Center (formerly NYIT Connect) is the place to access and post enrollment and student-related information. Find schedules, submit grades and attendance, and complete forms to support students in their academic journey.
This platform is supported by the Office of the Registrar. If you have any questions, you can find contact information here.
Zoom
Connect synchronously with your students in lectures, meetings, and other live sessions. https://nyit.zoom.us

Before the First Day of Classes
Syllabus
Each course must have a syllabus that conforms to the course content approved by the department and Academic Senate Curriculum Management. The syllabus must be given to students at the first class meeting and must be made available on Canvas.
New York Tech has an official syllabus template. Contact your department chair or hiring contact to see if a syllabus already exists for your course and if you are required to use it. If not, ask for sample syllabi for other courses that you can use as a model. Remember to give a copy of your course syllabus to your chair and to your assistant/associate dean at the start of the semester.
For further information please refer to the “Course Syllabi” section in the faculty handbook.
Textbooks
Ask your department chair if textbooks have already been ordered for your class. If books have not been ordered for your classes, please do so as soon as possible. New York Tech uses an online service for books. If you are not ordering or requiring books for your classes, you can indicate that information through the Bookstore link.
Set Up Your Canvas Course(s)
Once your employment record is active, your department chair will be able to enter you into Peoplesoft and assign you a course, which will in turn grant you access to the Canvas shell. Once you have access, be sure to publish the course, posting your course syllabus and contact information so students know how best to reach you.
Send a Welcoming Email
Welcoming students prior to the semester sets them up for success. It creates a sense of belonging and a connection to you, their instructor. If you would like to send a welcome email to your students before the first day, you can pull your class roster from the Faculty Center. It may be helpful to introduce yourself, clarify your course delivery method and expectations for the first day/week, and to attach your syllabus.
