About Thank a Professor

Instructors don't always have a chance to learn about the positive impact they have on the students they teach. The Center for Teaching and Learning created the Thank a Professor program with this in mind, inviting students to express appreciation to those who have gone out of their way to support them and their education.

Here’s how it works:

  • Students fill out a form online that lets instructors know that they are making a difference and that their efforts are recognized and appreciated. Students may choose to remain anonymous or include their names.
  • These notes are printed on a certificate and sent, after a vetting process, to the person being thanked.
  • A letter and the certificate is sent to the faculty member and their department chair.
  • Your message may be shared on social media or other promotional communications (anonymously) to encourage others to send their thanks to someone who has provided them with a meaningful learning experience. (You may opt-out of having your message shared publicly.)

The time it takes to say "thank you" may be brief, but the impact is far greater than you may realize. Thank someone today!

What Students Have to Say About Their Professors

From the hundreds (over 1300 and counting!) of messages we received, we are sharing a number of thank you notes with students’ permission.
