Join us on Wednesday, June 8, from 1 – 3 p.m. (ET), for the 16th Annual Energy Conference: Climate Adaptation and Resilience. This virtual conference will explore strategies for adapting to climate change and explain how communities can increase their sustainability and resilience.
The event is free for students, faculty, and staff. There is a $25 registration fee for alumni and community members. All proceeds directly benefit students in the energy management program and in the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences.

Babak Beheshti, Ph.D., Dean, NYIT College of Engineering and Computing Sciences
Babak D. Beheshti, Ph.D. is Professor and Dean of the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences (CoECS) at New York Institute of Technology.
Babak's experience in higher education spans over 35 years, where he has served as a full-time faculty member, President of the Senate, Associate Dean, and Dean. As dean of the engineering college, Babak led the college to the introduction of its first two Ph.D. programs in computer science and engineering, two new Bachelor's and one new Master's degree programs, in addition to leading the college through its fastest climb in national rankings: #33 Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs (National - no doctorate)—a climb of 13 places since 2020, and #191 Best Computer Science Undergraduate Programs (National - no doctorate), a new ranking in 2021—a climb of 40 places since 2020.

In line with the career-oriented mission of NYIT, Babak has led the CoECS in building a strong partnership with industry/government including NASA, Zscaler, IBM Red Hat, Xilinx, Soter Technologies, and Zebra Technologies.
Babak has served as a member of the IEEE Board of Directors (2018–2019), and a member of the Board of Directors of Long Island Software and Technology Network (LISTnet). In 2022 Babak serves as a member of the Educational Activities Board and the Chair of the Continuing Education Committee. He also serves on the Board of IgniteLI – Long Island Manufacturing Consortium and is a member of the Advisory Board of The International Association of Transportation Regulators.
Babak is a recipient of the IEEE, MGA Leadership Award, IEEE Millennium Medal, the IEEE LI Section Athanasios Papoulis Outstanding Educator Award, and three IEEE Region 1 Awards, including the 2008 IEEE Northeastern Region Technical Innovation Award.
Babak received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, and his master's and bachelor's degrees in Electrical Engineering at Stony Brook University.
Robert Amundsen, Ph.D., Director, M.S. in Energy Management program, New York Institute of Technology
Robert Amundsen earned a B.S. in Physics and Astronomy and a B.S. in Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Rochester, followed by an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Energy Management and Policy at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2018, he was elected to the AEE Energy Managers Hall of Fame, which recognizes "outstanding leaders in the energy industry who over their lifetimes have made significant contributions in the field of energy management."

Each year, Amundsen helps to plan the annual Energy Conference, bringing leading experts in the energy and environmental fields to New York Institute of Technology. He is an enthusiastic promoter of energy efficiency and works tirelessly to protect the environment and save energy wherever possible.
Amundsen is also an advocate of using innovative technologies in virtual and material classrooms. He encourages students to take advantage of distance learning options in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from travel.
As president of the Long Island Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers, Amundsen is actively involved in local events that showcase new trends and technologies in the energy field. He is a past recipient of the Environmental Educator of the Year Award, and the Energy Professional Development Award. He served as the Engineering Faculty Advisor for the NYIT Solar Decathlon Team.
Andrew Robinson, Chief Administrative Officer, Village of Laxgalts'ap, Canada
Andrew Robinson is a proud member of the Nisga'a Nation whose home community is Laxgalts'ap in Northwestern British Columbia. In his role as Chief Administrative Officer for the Village of Laxgalts'ap, he has been a champion for advancing Indigenous priorities across British Columbia and beyond. A lifetime of cultural, community-related, educational and career-focused experiences have shaped Andrew's approach to elevating the voice of Indigenous leadership in our contemporary age of reconciliation and relationship renewal in Canada.

The Indigenous lived-experience, Indigenous knowledge systems, languages and cultural practices are the foundation for the resilience of Indigenous people, some of whom can trace their histories for thousands of years. Across the scales from the local impacts to the global implications, the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People are influencing the role of Indigenous rights in government, industry, and nations as a whole.
Global climate change issues have unique and diverse impacts on Indigenous communities. As a passionate educator, Andrew founded ReconciliAction Consulting Ltd in 2020 to contribute to the ever-growing awareness of Indigenous rights and responsibilities as we face contemporary challenges including those linked to adaptation to climate change impacts.

Robert Cody, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, is Partner of Amoia Cody Architecture, Professor of Practice, and Former Associate Dean and Chair at the New York Institute of Technology School of Architecture and Design.

For over 30 years, he has worked on projects from wood-frame houses to precast concrete office buildings, interior renovations to free-standing towers, design competitions to physical construction, and ecological design, to The Museum of Modern Art. In addition, Cody has taught design studios at all levels with particular concentration in the comprehensive design studio, building construction, architectural theory, and study abroad in Italy and Scandinavia. He has also been the New York Tech NCARB AXP coordinator and AIAS faculty advisor since 2012.
Dr. Emily Sbiroli, Emergency Medicine Physician and National Physician Fellow in Climate and Health
Dr. Sbiroli is a practicing emergency medicine physician in San Diego, California and is a National Physician Fellow in Climate and Health with the University of Colorado. Dr. Sbiroli completed her residency in 2021 at UC San Diego including one year as Chief Resident. Her current focus includes health care sector decarbonization and the impacts of climate change on human health.

Dr. Sbiroli has given numerous lectures and grand rounds presentations throughout the country to a wide variety of audiences, including students ranging from high school to graduate health professionals, practicing clinicians, engineers, and lay audiences on the topics of climate change health impacts and health care sector sustainability. She has developed and led curricula for medical students and physician training programs on climate and health, and participated in California state advocacy initiatives.
She shared the stage at the Environmental Media Association Impact Summit, was featured on a podcast with At Home with Drew and Linda Scott, and has presented at California's American College of Emergency Physicians, FemInEM, and CleanMed. In 2019 she was named an inaugural Emerging Physician Leader by Health Care Without Harm's Physician Network. As a National Physician Fellow, she is currently working with Health Care Without Harm and the US Environmental Protection Agency Climate Science and Impacts Branch.
Thomas Lanzilotta (M.S. '10), Assistant Director of Energy Management and Sustainability, Stony Brook University
Tom Lanzilotta, holds a Master's Degree in Energy Management from New York Institute of Technology, is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and Certified Energy Auditor (CEA). Tom was named NY Chapter Energy Manager of the Year in 2016, Regional Energy Manager of the Year in 2019, and International Energy Manager of the Year in 2021 by the Association of Energy Engineers and has won multiple awards for his efforts at Stony Brook University.

As Assistant Director of Energy Management and Sustainability for Stony Brook University, Tom plays a key role in analyzing and identifying ways to reduce energy on campus. Tom has managed more than $90 million in energy efficiency projects which has led to a 21% reduction in the overall energy consumption despite a campus expansion that has added more than 1.5-million square feet of new buildings since he joined the University in 2012.
Patricia Keen, Assistant Professor of Energy Management, New York Institute of Technology
Patricia Keen completed three degrees at the University of British Columbia (B.S. in Chemistry (1986) and Master's (2002) and Ph.D. (2009) in Resource Management and Environmental Science) and a Diploma of Technology in Chemistry and Metallurgy at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (1981). She has extensive experience in applied environmental research and technology development gained from employment in the private, public, and academic sectors.

She has completed several years as a teacher and student supervisor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia. Her corporate experience includes project management, commercialization of technologies, and business development related to environmental science and sustainability. She joined NYIT-Vancouver as an assistant professor of energy management in 2016.
Stefan Storey, Assistant Professor of Energy Management, New York Institute of Technology
Stefan Storey, assistant professor of energy management at NYIT-Vancouver, is an educator and innovator, teaching energy engineering, resource management, and policy in the M.S. in Energy Management program at the Vancouver campus. He also leads Sensible Building Science, an engineering technology company that aims to make buildings smarter and more responsive to the needs of occupants.

Stefan has an interdisciplinary engineering background and is a specialist in energy policy, energy efficiency planning, life cycle analysis, and the long-term financial management of commercial buildings. His areas of expertise include data science, automation, risk analysis, operations and maintenance, financial modelling, post occupancy evaluation, energy performance verification and measurement, indoor environmental air quality, and whole-building environmental impact analysis.
Remi Charron, Ph.D., P. Eng., Assistant Dean and Associate Professor of Energy Management, New York Institute of Technology
Remi Charron has over 15 years of experience working to improve energy efficiency and integrate renewable energy on buildings in Canada. He has been working as a senior research and education consultant with BC Housing since 2012.

In that role, he has helped the building industry adapt to the continuously evolving building code requirements. Charron has headed the Master of Science in Energy Management at NYIT-Vancouver since its launch in 2016 where he serves as an assistant dean and associate professor.
