Creative Tech Week Conference 2019

On Friday, May 10, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., NYIT will host the Creative Tech Week Conference: AI and Creativity, featuring experts working on today's most cutting-edge creative technologies.

This two-day conference features remarks from Nada Marie Anid, Ph.D., vice president, Strategic Communications and External Affairs and Christian Pongratz, M.Arch., interim dean, School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Education, as well as speakers from companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Adobe, and Intel.

The conference is a part of Creative Tech Week (May 8 - 19), a crowdsourced festival created to bring together a talented professional community of expert creative technologists with the people interested in their work.

• May 6, 6 – 7 p.m.: Creativity in a world of Quantum & AI. Join Christian Pongrantz, interim dean of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Education, for a free fireside-chat with IBM Architect and Quantum Computing Ambassador Mark Mattingly-Scott led by IBM Developer Advocate Luke Schantz. The conversation will span both creative and technical topics and will explore creativity in enterprise technology and new technologies being leveraged by creative professionals. • May 8, 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Artificial Intelligence: Fueling the Next Wave of Innovation. Join us for this NYIT Conference where industry experts will address cutting-edge developments ranging from the implementation of advanced AI technologies and AI-enabled digital innovations, to customer engagement via machine learning and automation. • May 9, 6 – 8 p.m.: M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition: Fused Art//Design//Technology Opening Reception. Thesis show from the NYIT Department of Digital Art and Design will run May 10 – 25, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Location: NYIT 16 W. 61st St., 11th floor, New York, NY.
• May 10 & May 11, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Robotic Automation Demonstration. RobotMatterDesign Team & HDrobotic, custom applications in Robotic Automation with the latest generation Dexter robot. • May 11, 11:10 – 11:25 a.m.: NYIT Prototyping Workshop Presentation: NYIT students and others from the creative technology community present prototypes of ideas spawned by the new NYIT Creative Technology Innovation Council, a think tank designed to create a body of research and provide best practices in the field. Introduced by Isabel Walcott Draves, founder and president of Creative Tech Week and Christian Pongratz, interim dean, School of Interdisciplinary Studies. • May 11, noon – 12:55 p.m.: The Ethical Impact of AI on our Future. Hear NYIT Professor Kevin LaGrandeur, Ph.D., and fellow panelists from MIT, Hunter College, John Jay College, and Amazon discuss Artificial Intelligence and ethics, and the threat to American jobs presented to by robots and computers (the topic of LaGrandeur's op-ed published in USA Today) and his recently published book, Surviving the Machine Age. • May 11, 1:15 – 2: 15 p.m.: Lunch & Learn Workshops. Kent Gilson, founder/inventor, Haddington Dynamics offers his presentation, "A Call to Arms: Self-replicating robots to democratize the means of production," providing the big picture of Haddington Dynamics with a  description motion control system with the optical encoders. Aleksandr Vasilyev, Ph.D., M.D., assistant professor of biomedical sciences and director of the Innovation Center, discusses 3-D Bio Printer, Nephro360. Matthew Cornelius, NYIT motion capture director and director of art media technology for The HIVE, will explain R&D for the gestural project with the Haddington Dexter Robot. Robert Michael Smith, associate professor of digital art and design, and Randy Stout, Ph.D., assistant professor of biomedical science, will demonstrate various VR Projects. This workshop offers a preview of NYIT’s non-credit certificate program in AR/VR/MR: Unity, which is available through the Office of Extended Education and Department of Digital Art and Design. We will offer tours of The HIVE and the display gallery of digital sculptures in metal, stone, wood, and 3-D prints in the office of Robert Michael Smith. • May 11, 2:20 – 2:30 p.m.: VR and Advances in Autism. Hear Alexander Lopez, J.D., associate professor of occupational therapy at NYIT, and founder of Inclusive Sports and Fitness Inc., a nonprofit aimed to meet the occupational needs of children with performance skill impairments, speak about his work leveraging technology to help youth advance their sensorimotor, social, emotional, and cognitive abilities.
