Join the Office of Student Life in welcoming our keynote speaker for Black History Month, Tish Norman, as she discusses "Re-Defining Blackness.
During this unprecedented moment within the racial justice movement of the 21st Century, reflecting on the exemplary lives of Harriet Tubman and Martin Luther King Jr. is not enough. Creating spaces that acknowledge and incorporate the achievements, contributions, and leadership of Black figures is critical every day, not just in February.
African-Americans are among the most significant scholars, social trendsetters, cultural producers, and community connectors the world has ever seen. While their contributions are becoming more understood, recognized, and appreciated, there's still more work to be done. Opportunities for culturally-sensitive leadership development are now and the intent and impact are just as crucial. Help me normalize this topic every day, so when it is brought up, it's not so uncomfortable, nuanced, and left in the shortest month of the year. Let's get to work.
