Dear New York Tech Students, Faculty, and Staff,
Effective immediately, New York Institute of Technology will reinstate the requirement for all students, faculty, and staff to wear masks indoors in public areas and classrooms, irrespective of vaccine status.
This action is being taken as a result of routine national and local surveillance that has demonstrated a recent increase in the percentage of positive COVID-19 tests and number of COVID-19 infections, as well as the rapid spread of the increasingly contagious Delta variant.
To reduce the risk of becoming infected with the Delta variant and potentially spreading it to others, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that fully vaccinated as well as unvaccinated people wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas of high and substantial transmission risk, such as our campuses in New York City and Long Island.
We thank you in advance for your cooperation with this change. We must all remain flexible and prepared to change our behaviors based on the latest science and information in order to reduce the mobility, spread, and mortality of this virus.
As always, the New York Tech community is welcome to make an appointment for a COVID test or vaccination at the Academic Health Care Center in Long Island by calling 516.686.1300. We will also be hosting vaccination events on Wednesday, August 4 on both our Long Island and New York City campuses as part of our participation in the White House COVID-19 College Vaccination Challenge.
Those who may feel anxious or uneasy can reach out to Counseling and Wellness Services at our campuses in Long Island (516.686.7683) or New York City (212.261.1773) to talk or make a virtual appointment.
Sincerely,
