Dear Faculty at our New York Campuses,
First, I cannot thank you enough for your ongoing dedicated and continuous instructional work in this time of ERT (Emergency Remote Teaching). Your abilities to adapt, innovate, and be flexible, along with your caring for our students and one another, cannot be appreciated enough.
I know you are also reflecting on what you do now, what you have done in the past, and what you (and others) might do going forward to best serve our New York Tech students. You probably often wish, as I regularly do these days, that, despite our strengths, we could go back to what we were doing and where we were in October 2019. For better or for worse, we cannot. Eleanor Roosevelt is cited as saying “The future is literally in our hands to mold as we like. But we cannot wait until tomorrow. As you review these updates and information, I hope you will keep Eleanor Roosevelt’s words in mind, and know that you can make a contribution to our future by thinking, planning ahead, and speaking about it today. The environment and considerations for public and individual health determine what we can do, and you probably are aware of the extension of the “stay home” stipulation through mid-May from the Governor’s office. Summer courses will be taught remotely and online. Please feel free to email me your thoughts, experiences, and more, and I will be happy to share with others, too.
Suspension of Student Evaluations of Courses this Semester

This interim suspension of evaluations is supported by the AAUP leadership.
The absence of course evaluations for Spring 2020 will not negatively affect any faculty member with respect to promotion, tenure, or reappointment. A separate survey will be sent to students late this term to get their general opinions of how this semester went. This “student experience with remote teaching and learning” survey will not ask about individual courses or faculty members, but will include ways for students to report exceptionally good experiences and specific needs they see going forward. We will share these results, in aggregate, with the entire New York Tech community…
