Dear Faculty,

As we approach final exams, I want to make you aware of the following statement from the General Counsel:

Due to concerns about arbitrary enforcement and technological inequalities, the use of webcam monitoring components of proctoring software for purposes of final exam administration is not authorized. To the extent that all students in a given class have access to computing equipment that meets the minimum technical standards required by the proctoring software, non-webcam features such as lockdown browsers may be implemented during final exams on a mandatory basis.

What does this mean for you and your courses?

It means that if you choose to use Respondus, you may only use the lock-down browser feature. You may not use the webcam monitoring.

Remember that not all our students have webcams, and with the current situation imposed by COVID-19, it is not realistic to expect them to purchase one on such short notice.

If you need assistance configuring Respondus, please call 631.348.3317 or 800.462.9041. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Regards,
