Canvas Exam Converter

What is a QTI converter?
This online tool will allow you to create Canvas Quizzes using a formatted* text entry. Using this tool will allow you to upload a set of quiz questions with correct answers instead of manually entering each question into Canvas and its associated answer one at a time.

When do you use this tool or Respondus 4.0?
All Mac users will use this tool instead of Respondus 4.0. PC users can use either option. Respondus 4.0 offers more options, such as adding images into your quiz questions, but these features require users to learn more technical skills to properly use the software. For more information about how to use Respondus 4.0, read this training SMORE or contact nyit.edu/itshelp for assistance.

What platforms does it support?
Mac and PC users alike can use this online tool, unlike Respondus 4.0, which only supports PC users.

How do you use this tool?
You use this tool by pasting the formatted* question text as described below into the text window on this website. Once you are finished, click the green "Check for Syntax Errors" button and make any last corrections. Once no errors are found, click the Convert to Canvas QTI file button. The web browser will automatically download the QTI zip file to your computer. You will import this file into your Canvas course using the “Import Course Content” option on the course settings page. Click Here for the Canvas guide on importing the QTI zip file. Once complete, you can publish or continue editing your Canvas Quiz as appropriate.
