Carol Dahir

School counseling students have benefited from Dahir's cultural awareness. Since 2008, she has organized six academic and cultural excursions for school counseling graduate students. They have worked with universities in Istanbul, Izmir, and Ankara. The result has been a partnership between NYIT, its School of Education, and the Turkish Cultural Center in New York City, where faculty and students have participated in events organized around the “Year of Turkey” at NYIT.

Sheldon Yao

Yao has been involved with conducting clinical research to investigate the effects of osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) on Parkinson’s Disease. Preliminary data of these studies have shown that OMM techniques targeting the spine and extremities to decrease muscle spasms and increase range of motion has been effective in helping to improve motor function and balance in subjects with more advanced Parkinson’s Disease.

Nada Anid

The first female dean of NYIT's School of Engineering and Computing Sciences (SoECS), Nada Anid oversees 80 engineering and computing sciences faculty members and nearly 3,500 graduate and undergraduate students at NYIT campuses located in Manhattan and Old Westbury, N.Y., Canada, China, and the Middle East.

Michael Schwarting

Schwarting's efforts to "green" Port Jefferson date back nearly a decade—to the NYIT classroom where he involved students in designing ideas later presented to the mayor, village trustees, and others. The project was well received, and Schwarting continued to work on it with his architecture firm.

Charles A. Matz III

Matz's 3D land and architectural surveys, with laser scanners akin to mirrored large-format digital cameras, are deployed in restoration as well as media. Ethiopia is one of many countries where Matz has traveled for educational and research projects.

Robert Koenig

Koenig is associate dean of the School of Management’s student advancement programs, where he oversees mentoring, ambassador, and literacy programs, and coordinate faculty-led educational trips. As advisor to the Society of Hosteurs and the Delta Mu Delta Honor Society, he promotes community involvement in charitable activities such as the City Harvest Food Drive, St. Jude Children’s Research fundraisers, and Covenant House Toy drive.

Farzana Gandhi

Gandhi believes that it is imperative that we offer our students lateral and comprehensive ways of thinking, communication, and visual representation in our increasingly connected world. After leading students in a traveling design studio program in India, she said, I was happy to see our students engaging so critically with local architects. Discussions centered on pressing contemporary issues that could inform solutions locally, but also within larger global contexts.
