International Education Week: 2020

November 10, 2020

November 16 through 20 is International Education Week, a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education that celebrates the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide.

With students from more than 90 countries, New York Institute of Technology is dedicated to fostering intercultural understanding. Throughout the week, the university will host a series of virtual events that focus on intercultural exchange, sharing our national and ethnic cuisines, our languages, and our journeys. The week culminates with the annual No Ordinary Journey essay presentation, with awards to students, faculty, staff, and community partners for outstanding contributions within New York Tech’s experiential education.

November 20

No Ordinary Journey Contest
International students: Join us for a celebration of you, your personal journey, and your experiences adjusting to the ways of a foreign culture.

Students will share their personal story regarding situations and adjustments to a new environment—whether it’s loneliness slowly turning into excitement, isolation melting into confidence and a sense of belonging, or moments of personal growth or gradual understanding of “local ways.”

This year, as we have all been affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic, essays and presentations can also provide an opportunity to reflect on how it has affected your life and express your feelings both on the current situation and for the future.
