Meet Our New Bear!

Meet Our New Bear!

June 11, 2019

New York Institute of Technology Athletics debuted a new logo featuring a fierce, roaring bear with a modern design. The color scheme also moves to a more traditional palette—with a darker blue complementing a rich gold, similar to New York State’s colors.

Those colors were worn by New York Tech student-athletes for much of the school’s history, before the blue migrated to a lighter shade.

The changes modernize New York Tech Athletics’ look while also paying homage to the traditional colors of the school and moniker familiar to many alumni and student-athletes.

The new design retires the brown bear logo that has served as the symbol of athletics since the 1990s.

“New York Tech is synonymous with success in our athletic department,” said Dan Vélez, M.S., director of athletics. “When we launched this process, it was important to all of us that while we were looking forward with this new brand identity, we also made sure that we honored our successful history. We truly believe these new marks will continue to bring out the pride that all New York Tech alumni share. With the university going through its own rebrand, we knew that athletics needed to do the same.”

The logo was created by Sussner Design Company of Minneapolis.

“Our goal in updating the New York Tech bear mascot and logotype was to create a brand identity that represents the school’s vision, and to create fresh, relevant, and exciting engagement with the student-athletes and fans,” said Derek Sussner, founder and executive creative director of Sussner Design Company. The refreshed bear logo and custom font designs are inspired by the school’s spirit. We are excited to see the new logo out on the field and the court.”

Merchandise with the new logo will be available in the near future at nyitbearsfanshop.com.
