New Faculty Receive New York Welcome
August 30, 2018
The NYIT family just got a little bigger.
The latest faculty members joining the university were welcomed by NYIT President Hank Foley, Ph.D., at the August 28 New Faculty Reception at NYIT de Seversky Mansion. As colleagues introduced themselves to each other over refreshments and food, they had the opportunity to meet several VIPs in the NYIT community, including deans, vice presidents, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Junius Gonzales, M.D., M.B.A., and President Foley.
“I want to welcome you to the school for makers, doers, inventors, and innovators,” said President Foley. “The NYIT faculty are at the core of everything we do. It’s your relationships with the students that are the most important factors in our institution’s overall success.”
This year’s new faculty members bring expertise across a variety of specialties, including biomedical imaging and instrumentation, quantum physics, computational partial differential equations, holography, clinical nursing, adolescent development, urban design and development, business, and accounting, among other fields.
“I was attracted to NYIT in large part because of its focus on excellence in teaching, stellar faculty, and its strong research initiatives,” said Assistant Professor Sophia Kovesi Domokos, Ph.D., a new faculty member teaching at the NYIT-New York City (Manhattan) campus. “But I was also excited to join because I was impressed by the kindness and humor of the people I met. The orientation and faculty reception reinforced my sense I am joining a warm, vibrant community that fosters collaboration and innovation.”
