Members of the NYIT community marched in the 28th Annual Long Island Pride Parade. The event, which took place in Long Beach, N.Y., on June 10, celebrated LGBT Long Islanders and their allies. The office of Student Life coordinated NYIT participation in the event. “We demonstrated our commitment to co-creating a new narrative about who we are as a college in relation to positioning diversity and the representation of identities at the forefront of creating an affirming and inclusive campus,” said Yolany Gonell, director of Student Life at NYIT-Long Island (Old Westbury).

NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine has an LGBT chapter. An undergraduate student group called NYIT Pride Association formed in spring 2018. In October, the office of Student Life collaborated with Human Resources on activities to promote National Coming Out Day to students, faculty, and staff.

For anyone looking to celebrate LGBT Pride Month in New York City, the 2018 New York City Pride March will take place on June 24. The March is free for the public to watch.
