On October 22, the Office of Student Engagement on the New York City campus dedicated free hour to Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), which this year runs from October 31 through November 2. The holiday, which originated in Mexico, is a celebration of the lives of loved ones who have passed away. Students learned about the origins of the holiday that is celebrated by many, including throughout Latin America.

The celebration includes a variety of events and different traditions. Families and friends honor the people that have passed away by making their favorite food or decorating their graves. The main symbols of Dia de Los Muertos are the skeleton and the skull. At the event, students had the opportunity to paint their own ceramic skull.
