On March 31, after a two-year pandemic-related delay, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Long Island Section awards were presented at Crest Hollow Country Club before an audience of 150 people.
For New York Tech, it was well worth the wait, as College of Engineering and Computing Sciences Dean Babak D. Beheshti, Ph.D., and Assistant Professor of Computer and Electrical Engineering, Batu Chalise, Ph.D., were honored.
IEEE is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. The IEEE Long Island Section is the largest engineering society on Long Island; members from a broad range of industries work tirelessly to further the advancement of technology, helping to make Long Island a center of innovation.
The 2022 IEEE Long Island Section awards recognize outstanding Long Islanders who have made significant engineering contributions at the Section or the Region 1 IEEE (Northeastern USA) levels. Beheshti received the Long Island Section Harold Wheeler Award “For technical achievements and outstanding management of the NYIT College of Engineering and Computing Sciences.” Chalise received an IEEE Region 1 Technological Innovation (Academic) Award “For technical contributions in optimization and signal processing for joint radar sensing and communications.”
“Through its awards program, IEEE furthers the interests of its members by recognizing their contributions in advancing relevant fields to the benefit of society. It is a matter of pride for us whenever representatives from New York Tech are recognized with these prestigious and competitive awards; they are exemplars of professional accomplishments and contributions made to the engineering community by our faculty,” Beheshti said.
