News Byte: New York Tech Healthcare Leaders Recognized

As New York City prepares to honor essential workers with its July 7 “Hometown Heroes” parade, four of New York Tech’s own healthcare leaders were honored during an event by Schneps Media group.

The June 30 virtual Healthcare Heroes awards ceremony followed an earlier in-person celebration, with both events recognizing the contributions and dedication of the healthcare community, from New York to Montauk. Acknowledging the unprecedented strain caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the awards ceremony highlighted the tireless efforts of healthcare professionals and clinicians, not just during the public health crisis but every day.

New York Tech honorees included:

• Jerry Balentine, D.O., executive vice president and chief operating officer
• Brian Harper, M.D., M.P.H., chief medical officer and vice president for equity and inclusion
• Gordon Schmidt, Ph.D., dean of the School of Health Professions
• Nicole Wadsworth, D.O., dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM)

The awardees thanked the healthcare alumni who served on the pandemic frontlines as well as the students, faculty, and staff who helped the public get vaccinated against COVID-19, the NYITCOM physicians and students who provide free primary care services to underserved populations, and faculty mentoring the future generation of healthcare heroes, among others.
