NYIT Announces Through the Lens Photography Winners

Two students and one faculty member are the winners of NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine's sixth segment of the Through the Lens initiative focused on the theme: "transform your learning." Winners were announced at an event on Jan. 23 at the Old Westbury campus.

First place went to Syed Karim, a second-year osteopathic medical student and the competition's first repeat winner, for "Going Forward By Looking Back" (see photo above), which shows a vital road at a flood zone in his ancestral home, Aminpur Village, Bangladesh.

Sheldon Yao (D.O. '02), associate professor and acting chairperson of the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, won second place for "Who's Looking at Who," a photo of his son Benjamin intrigued by the displays at the New England Aquarium in Boston.

Third place went to Hau Chieng, a fourth-year osteopathic medical student. In his "Charla at El Volcán," he captures a moment during a global health mission trip to El Salvador, when an NYIT physician showed children how to take their blood pressure.

Through the Lens is an initiative that encourages students, faculty, and staff to hone their creative skills by exploring themes that represent the College of Osteopathic Medicine's vision to advance, transform, illuminate, and inspire tomorrow's physicians.
