New York Met David Wright Surprises NYIT Student-Athletes

On January 25, New York Mets great David Wright paid a surprise visit to the NYIT baseball and softball teams during practice. The third baseman took questions from the student-athletes about playing fundamentals as well as his Mets career. Wright, who played with NYIT head coach Frank Catalanotto during the Mets’ 2010 season, also posed for photos with players and offered individual instruction to the baseball team’s third baseman, Nick Tedesco. “Anytime you can get a tip from a pro, especially David Wright with the career he’s had, any tips he can give are just so valuable,” said Tedesco.

ECC Names Francisco Caldas Preseason Player of the Year

The East Coast Conference named NYIT men’s tennis player Francisco Caldas Preseason Player of Year. Although was disappointed with his exit in the second round of the ITA East Regionals in September, he went on to defeat Division I Hofstra’s Jan Leithner, 7-6 (1), 6-3, at second singles later in the month. Last academic year, Caldas was named ITA East Region Player to Watch as well as first-team All-ECC. He was ranked fourth in the region in singles by the ITA in November. Read the full story.
