NYIT Hosts Dominican Republic VIP Delegation

On April 27, a delegation of officials from the Dominican Republic visited NYIT-Old Westbury campus to tour campus facilities and meet NYIT administration. Former Dominican President Leonel Fernandez and the Honorable Juan Ávila, Dominican Ambassador to the United Nations, were part of the 25-member delegation that visited academic and campus facilities, including:
- School of Engineering and Computing Sciences’ Entrepreneurship Technology Innovation Center (ETIC)
- NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine patient simulation laboratories
- School of Architecture gallery and studios
- College of Arts and Sciences’ Globesville classroom/studio and students
The Dominican delegation expressed how impressed they were with NYIT’s high-tech facilities, while NYIT students shared their excitement about having the VIPs on campus. During the Globesville class, one student tweeted “Exciting day at #Globesville! Great opportunity 2 greet @LeonelFernandez #DominicanRepublic & give gifts. #NYITpride” along with a photo of the visitors donning their new NYIT baseball caps and Globesville T-shirts.
After the tour, the group enjoyed lunch and further discussion at NYIT de Seversky Mansion with Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost Rahmat Shoureshi, Chief of Staff Pete Kinney, and Dean of Engineering and Computing Sciences Nada Anid.
