NYIT-JUFE Graduates Honored in Nanchang
April 23, 2019
On April 15, the first members of New York Institute of Technology’s Class of 2019 to be awarded their degrees were honored in a graduation ceremony in Nanchang, Jiangxi, China. NYIT partner Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (JUFE) hosted NYIT officials and 120 new graduates of the M.B.A. program at the university’s Qingshanyuan campus.
JUFE Vice President Xiaoping Wang welcomed the graduates, who come from various parts of China and who studied in cohorts in Shenzhen, Beijing, and Shanghai. Professor Scott Liu, Ph.D., associate dean of NYIT School of Management, represented NYIT along with Associate Provost Lou Reinisch, Ph.D.
In his speech, Wang congratulated the graduates and acknowledged their hard work, along with the efforts of their NYIT professors. New York-based School of Management faculty members spend weeks at a time teaching intensive courses to M.B.A. students in China.
Wang also thanked Liu for his critical role in the NYIT-JUFE partnership, which Liu and Wang spearheaded 21 years ago. “Liu’s efforts have provided a solid bridge for the smooth progress of the cooperation projects between the two universities,” said Wang, “making this project a model for international cooperation in running an academic program.”
Reinisch sparked enthusiastic applause from the graduates by pronouncing a Chinese greeting at the start of his speech. Reinisch, like Liu, has personal knowledge of these graduates because he taught a course in the program. “I have seen firsthand the quality of this academic program and the hard work and integrity of you, the students,” said Reinisch. He continued, “I am confident that each of you will . . . follow the many hundreds of [NYIT] alumni who have gone on to achieve success in their careers—in China and around the world.”
This group represents the 18th cohort of graduates from the NYIT-JUFE M.B.A. program. Dozens of them are planning to visit New York to attend the commencement ceremony in Long Island as well.
Other JUFE officials who attended the NYIT-JUFE ceremony include Honglin Yuan, dean of the Graduate School; Yuchen Hu, dean of the School of Business Administration; and Liangping Wu, associate dean for the M.B.A. program.
