NYIT-Vancouver Offers Master of Science in Instructional Technology

With newly written consent of British Columbia’s Ministry of Advanced Education, NYIT-Vancouver will begin offering a Master of Science in Instructional Technology in June 2016. The M.S. in Instructional Technology, offered through NYIT School of Education, responds to the growing role of technology in education. NYIT’s instructional technology program trains students to use information technology as teachers and trainers; graduates also work as technology coordinators in schools and other organizations.

Beginning June 2016, NYIT-Vancouver will launch three courses within the M.S. in Instructional Technology program. The summer courses are Philosophy and Technology of Education (EDIT 603) and Curriculum Design and Development (EDPC 605) from the educators track, and Social Networking Tools and Training (EDTR 606) for aspiring corporate trainers.

Philosophy and Technology of Education

New teaching methods and technologies can only support learning if they are a meaningful part of the student experience. You'll learn about instructional technologies and immerse in the social, psychological, and technical milieu of the digital medium.

Curriculum Design and Development

You'll learn and apply the five phases of instructional systems design: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. This course includes conducting needs assessments, developing performance assessment measures, and incorporating instructional technologies to teach diverse learners.

Social Networking Tools and Training

You'll investigate the advantages of "new social learning" and social media for training purposes. Trainers who use technologies for instructional delivery need to develop new competencies to become effective trainers. Emerging social networks can improve your learning via social interaction and discussions of new ideas. This course provides an overview as well as hands-on exploration of social media tools.

Applicant Requirements

You must have a bachelor's degree to enroll in the program or courses. All three courses are part of NYIT's Master of Science in Instructional Technology, which requires 33 credit hours of coursework.
