News Brief: NYIT Welcomes New EMBA Students

NYIT leaders and professors of NYIT School of Management welcomed a new cohort of EMBA students in a ceremony at NYIT Auditorium on Broadway. Forty-two new students joined the program, which prepares global leaders by combining experiential learning, including outings to other parts of the United States, with traditional lectures and group projects. Key participants of the unique program also received awards and met with NYIT President Hank Foley, Ph.D., following the ceremony.

The new students were welcomed by Professor Scott Liu, executive director of the School of Management’s Center for International Business Studies and the EMBA program’s leader. Liu introduced Nada Anid, Ph.D., vice president for Strategic Communications and External Affairs, who told the students, “We want to help you to create an exciting future through our EMBA program that will lead to a highly rewarding career. Your success is our success.”

Two executives who guest lecture in the EMBA program also spoke at the ceremony. Tao Ji, president and editor-in-chief of China Daily U.S.A. reminded listeners that in spite of current “trade friction” between China and the United States, “the two countries have much to learn from each other, and NYIT provides this great platform for learning how that can happen.” Adam He, chief financial officer of Wanda Group U.S.A., recommended that the students “get involved in activities, paid and unpaid. We don’t know when an opportunity will present itself.” Mr. He also graciously received an award as a “Distinguished Friend of NYIT Executive MBA.”

A 2017 graduate of the EMBA program Li Zhao described her journey as an entrepreneur and then received an “Outstanding Alumni” award. She recently opened Debutea, a tea-centered café near Manhattan’s Washington Square Park. NYIT Adjunct Instructor Steven Brabazon accepted an award as “Most Popular Professor” in the EMBA program.

Current student Victoria Fan said the EMBA’s experiential elements make it especially attractive. “It’s very experiential, with real interactions with real companies. And because of the way the schedule is arranged, I am able to attend business conferences and events to expand my network. I want to meet local people, not just students,” she added.

Many EMBA students come from institutions in China where NYIT has relationships, such as Tsinghua University (Beijing), Jinan University (Guangzhou), and China University of Mining and Technology (Xuzhou). Applicants are expected to have three years’ work experience in industry or government before tackling the EMBA.
