On February 21, leaders from NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) and Johns Hopkins University (JHU) launched a new partnership enabling JHU students to pursue an osteopathic medical education.

Representatives from both institutions gathered at NYIT de Seversky Mansion to sign an articulation agreement that will offer JHU students a fast track through the NYITCOM admissions process. While JHU has an established allopathic (M.D.) medical school, the partnership will open doors for students in JHU’s Post-Baccalaureate Premedical and Post-Baccalaureate Health Science Intensive programs who have an interest in osteopathic medicine.

“We’re proud to partner with such a prestigious institution to build a pipeline of highly qualified medical professionals that will address the growing demand for physicians,” said Jerry Balentine, D.O., dean of NYITCOM and vice president of Health Sciences and Medical Affairs. “This partnership will provide a seamless path for Johns Hopkins students seeking an osteopathic medical education, and we look forward to guiding them in their journey to physician hood.”

This is the first articulation agreement with an osteopathic medical school for JHU’s Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program, and the first articulation agreement for JHU’s Post-Baccalaureate Health Science Intensive Program. To qualify for the program, candidates must show excellent academic credentials, motivation, and personal qualities that demonstrate their ability to succeed in medical school. These students will have the opportunity to stand out early in the application review process and may be offered admission to NYITCOM during the spring semester of the post-bac year at JHU.

“We and our students are very excited about our new partnership with NYITCOM,” said Alexandra Tan, Ph.D., founder and director of the Post-Baccalaureate Health Science Intensive program and director of the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program at JHU. “The Johns Hopkins University Post-Baccalaureate Programs students are fully committed to becoming patient-centric and holistic physicians who fully invest in the well-being of their communities. We feel very privileged to help them at the beginning of their journey to medical school, and we know that NYITCOM does a phenomenal job preparing them to realize that dream.”

The partnership with JHU follows NYITCOM’s recent articulation agreement with Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS), which was announced in December and also formalized at the February 21 signing event. NYITCOM currently holds articulation agreements with 15 partnering institutions.
