NYITCOM Students Take the Lead in Research

Six NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) student posters placed first or second at the recent 2017 American Osteopathic Association Osteopathic Medical Conference and Exposition.

“Across the nation we are one of the top osteopathic schools conducting high-quality osteopathic-focused research,” said Sheldon Yao, D.O., associate professor and chair of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. “The fact that NYIT placed in over half of the possible awards demonstrates the excellence and quality of our students and the research mentors and educators they work with.”

More than 50 students from various medical schools presented their research at the conference in Philadelphia on October 7 – 10. Two NYITCOM students took first place and four placed second.

“These awards are a recognition of the quality of research and work that our students do on top of their ongoing medical education,” Yao said. “NYITCOM is gaining a national reputation in cutting-edge osteopathic research, and the students and faculty members have taken this opportunity to really shine and demonstrate our ability to produce quality research and results.”

James Docherty, Rebecca Grohman, and Alexandra Schatz placed second for their research on the Effect of Pedal Pump on Lymphatic Technique On Exercise Recovery After Maximal Exercise.
