Patrick O’Shaughnessy (D.O. ’99) Appointed to Board of Trustees

New York Institute of Technology President Hank Foley, Ph.D., announced that Patrick M. O’Shaughnessy (D.O. ’99) has been appointed to the university’s Board of Trustees. O’Shaughnessy is the most recent alumnus to join the institution’s governing board.

A resident of Dix Hills, N.Y., O’Shaughnessy is president and chief executive officer of Catholic Health, an integrated health system serving hundreds of thousands of Long Islanders each year. Catholic Health comprises nearly 17,000 employees, six acute care hospitals, three nursing homes, a home health service, a hospice, and a network of physician practices.

“Patrick is a recognized national leader in high-reliability healthcare as well as effective team building and leadership. These attributes make him an outstanding role model for our students and alumni, and we are fortunate to add his experience and acumen to the board,” President Foley said. 

“New York Institute of Technology has been an important part of my life. Earning my medical degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine prepared me for my professional journey,” said O’Shaughnessy. “Now, I want to give back and help steer the course of this prestigious institution as a trustee as our world enters a new era of technology and innovation. I see a future filled with enormous opportunity, and I want to help New York Tech grow and continue to produce new generations of leaders.”

He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Beth Israel, where he was selected to be chief resident and then offered a faculty appointment. O’Shaughnessy was promoted to associate professor of emergency medicine and served as a practicing emergency attending physician at Beth Israel Medical Center for more than 10 years.

He earned his undergraduate degree from Stony Brook University and has an M.B.A. from Adelphi University and a master’s degree in population health management from Thomas Jefferson University. He is board-certified in emergency medicine and healthcare quality and management. He is also an active member of the American College of Physician Executives, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
