For the second year in a row, a graduate of NYIT's doctoral program in physical therapy has won a national student research award.
Nicole Osmundsen (B.S. '13, D.P.T '15) won $1,000 as the recipient of Alpha Eta National Allied Health Honor Society's Student Research Award. The honor recognized her study on the effect of a specific shoulder motion on the human body's ulnar nerve. She presented her research at the 2015 Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Osmundsen conducted her research while enrolled in NYIT School of Health Professions. She is now a therapist at Peak Performance Physical Therapy in Lynbrook, N.Y.
The research efforts of Osmundsen built upon a previous study by David Block (D.P.T. '14), the first NYIT student to receive the award in 2014 for his study of the shoulder and ulnar nerve in cadavers. An internal NYIT grant funded his research, which was eventually published in the Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy. Block is now a therapist at SPEAR Physical Therapy in Manhattan.
