Students from Partner in India Visit NYIT-Manhattan

Twenty undergraduate students from India’s Guru Nanak Institutions (GNI) visited NYIT’s campus in Manhattan this week as part of a two-week trip to educational and tourist sites in the United States. NYIT has an agreement with GNI which will allow selected senior GNI undergraduates to earn accelerated NYIT master’s degrees.

Based outside the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, GNI, like NYIT, is a career-focused institution that encourages students to adopt a global perspective. Student Sourab Akula said that for him, the most interesting feature of NYIT is its campus in the center of New York City. “Campus life in the city is interesting. We have a traditional campus in India. If we come to the United States, we want something new.”

Campus leaders, including Provost Rahmat Shoureshi, Ph.D.; Dean of the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences Nada Anid, Ph.D.; Dean Judith DiMaio of the School of Architecture and Design; and Dean of Campus Life Ann Marie Klotz, Ed.D., welcomed the students and gave them a brief orientation to NYIT’s career services, student affairs, English Language Institute, schools and colleges, and research centers.
