The Scope Goes to Washington

July 10, 2023

This spring, the College of Osteopathic Medicine’s (NYITCOM) podcast, The Scope, visited the White House, where NYITCOM Dean Nicole Wadsworth, D.O., sat down with Physician to the President and NYITCOM alumnus Kevin O’Connor (D.O. ’92) to record and film the medical school’s latest podcast episode.

O’Connor discusses his medical career as well as his White House appointments beginning in 2006 and spanning three presidential administrations. He also offers insights into the practice of medicine, military medical care, medical education, and what recent technological advancements mean for practicing physicians.

“The best opportunities for growth are the bad days. Adversity is when you’re going to define yourself. … The tough days are the formative ones,” O’Connor says in Episode 30, “Dean’s Circle: A Conversation with Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Physician to the President at the White House.”

Launched in 2019, The Scope centers on how the medical school experience helps shape the career of future physicians. Episodes focus on everything from wellness initiatives and medical research to practical advice for future physicians to progress and succeed during their formative medical school years.
