Apply NowJoin New York Tech’s 10-week Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program and work on exciting engineering and computer science projects with real-world impact.
As an REU participant, you’ll:
- Earn $7,000 plus a $700 travel allowance and additional housing and food support.
- Work full-time for 10 weeks (five days a week) on campus in New York City.
- Collaborate with faculty and graduate students on hands-on research that tackles safety and health challenges in digital environments—think issues like internet addiction, cyberbullying, toxic comments, and privacy concerns.
- Learn and apply techniques such as machine learning, deep learning, large language models, and federated learning using data from VR headsets, videos, and wearable devices.
You’ll also benefit from:
- Grad school prep workshops
- Networking and mentoring opportunities
- Site visits to industry and research labs
At the end of the program, you will showcase your work through a research paper, poster, and final presentation.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- Be enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university with at least one semester remaining after Summer 2026 and not have completed a B.A. or B.S. degree.
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale (rare exceptions may be considered on an individual basis).
- Be available to work full-time, in person, in New York for the 10-week program.
- Demonstrate interest in addressing safety and health issues in digital environments using machine learning or deep learning, and ideally, have completed at least two semesters of coursework.
In your personal statement, include a brief introduction about yourself and your work experience. If you have completed any projects or research—either as an undergraduate or independently—provide a short summary of those as well, and explain your interest in our program.
