Celebrating our Achievements

December 19, 2019

Dear Students:

As we prepare for a much-needed and well-deserved holiday break, I wanted to take a moment and reflect on 2019…and thank each of you for making New York Tech your home away home. You are the reason our faculty and staff are here—and we are all so very proud of your accomplishments and committed to your success.

We know we continue to fulfill our mission and deliver on our promises based on the many third-party validations we’ve received, notably:

  • A major surge (130 places) in our annual Times Higher Education/Wall Street Journal (THE/WSJ) rankings, followed a few days later by an 8-point jump in our U.S. News & World Report regional ranking and strong showings in our social mobility institutional numbers. More recently, we were recognized by the Military Times as a 2020 Best for Vets Four-Year School for the first time in our university's history and received high marks from Design Intelligence as a most-hired-from university for both our architecture and interior design programs.
  • This fall, the retention rate for the freshman-to-sophomore class rose more than 10% on the New York campuses (an increase from 75% in fall 2018 to 80% in fall 2019 in Long Island; and from 66% to 82% in New York City for the same time period) and graduation rates (up a full 2 percentage points).
  • On November 21, 2019, we received formal acknowledgement from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) reaffirming accreditation, with the next evaluation visit scheduled for 2026-2027. This is an important stamp of approval, signifying the quality of your education.
  • New York State has also approved our institution's second Ph.D. program, and we plan to welcome students to our new Ph.D. in Computer Science degree program next year.

We’ve seen our athletes winning conference championships, our students giving back and paying it forward in their communities, and our faculty in the media and on stage sharing their expertise and thought leadership.

Indeed, it's a brand new day at New York Institute of Technology: we also debuted our bold new brand that epitomizes our vibrant "maker, doer" culture As a university, we are reinventing the future in so many ways: with new leadership, expert faculty, in-demand curricular offerings, transformative pedagogy, high-impact teaching practices, cutting-edge technology, modern facilities, and ample resources.

So, as we move toward the end of this semester, we look to a 2020 that is bright with promise along with some major initiatives at New York Tech that will have significant impact on you and our history as we reinvent the future—our future!

Regards,

Hank Foley, Ph.D.
President, New York Institute of Technology
