NYC Updates
October 23, 2019
Dear Faculty, Students, and Staff:
New York Institute of Technology continues to make great progress in selecting the location of its new NYC campus. As mentioned in previous updates, a team of faculty and staff has toured available spaces in lower Manhattan and Long Island City. Both neighborhoods would serve our needs very well, be far more affordable, provide us with new state-of-the-art facilities, allow us to be closer to large existing and new student populations, and enable us to grow.
At this point, we are narrowing our options, with proposals from landlords arriving this week and next. After review, negotiations will begin with the landlords. At this point, our faculty and staff site team—along with real estate advisors Newmark, Knight, and Frank—are confident that a decision will be made by the end of December regarding our additional campus location (while maintaining our presence on West 61st Street). I am very optimistic about the future of New York Tech and the positive impact this move and the sale of 1855 Broadway will have—allowing us to grow, innovate, and serve the needs of current and new students, from undergraduate to professional learners, with far more than adequate space and new facilities for teaching, learning, research, scholarship, and student life.
As I’ve said before, this is a wonderful time to be part of the New York Tech family. In addition to our NYC expansion, we have lots to look forward to at our Long Island campus, with the construction of our Campus Commons expected to begin in spring or summer 2020. I look forward to sharing with all of you more news regarding these developments.
Sincerely,
Hank Foley, Ph.D.
President, New York Institute of Technology
