Regarding the White House's Decision to End the DACA Program

September 6, 2017

Earlier today, I shared this message with NYIT students at our U.S. campuses:

On Tuesday, September 5, the U.S. Attorney General announced that the President decided to phase out the previous administration's DACA program. This is no doubt a cause of considerable anxiety and stress for young people who were brought to this country at an early age, but who were never naturalized as U.S. citizens or made permanent residents. However, they grew up in America and consider themselves to be Americans in all other aspects of their lives, and they are, save for this unfortunate legal predicament.

The good news is that, given recent statements by Congressional leaders, I have high hopes that Congress will amend the law to ensure that these young people are able to remain in the United States legally and, for those pursuing an education, to continue their studies.

NYIT is a firm believer that all students should have the opportunity to earn a college education and use their knowledge to boost America's cultural, societal, and economic growth.

Sincerely,

Hank C. Foley, Ph.D.
President, NYIT
