Response to the October 31 Terrorist Attack in NYC
November 1, 2017
Yesterday, our city experienced what officials have deemed an act of terrorism that claimed the lives of eight innocent people. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their loved ones. At the same time, I find great comfort in the strength and resilience shown by this city in the face of tragedy. As New Yorkers and global citizens, we stand united against all forms of hatred and condemn violence.
I have been in contact with campus security regarding this matter and want to take this opportunity to assure you that we remain vigilant in maintaining the security of our campuses and the well-being of the NYIT community. Your safety is our No. 1 priority, and we remain in close contact with the NYPD and others to make sure we are up-to-date about any and all potential security concerns and ready to respond.
I also encourage you to be mindful of your own surroundings, and remember that if you see something, say something by informing campus security or calling 911.
It is not uncommon for people to feel anxious in response to these situations; please remember our Office of Counseling and Wellness services are available to you.
