Job Description
Peer tutors offer one-to-one or small group tutoring sessions in a broad range of academic subjects (e.g. math, physics, life sciences, accounting, etc.) and skill building techniques (e.g. time management and study skills). Tutors are required to have an expertise in the subject matter, previous tutoring and/or teaching experience, leadership skills, and the ability to relate to a diverse student population. A tutor must possess strong verbal and communications skills. Our tutoring position is a paid, flexible, on-campus job opportunity that will enhance your leadership skills.

Under the supervision of the Learning Center staff, tutors are responsible for the following:
- Tutoring individual and/or small group sessions
- Preparing appropriate materials and exercises for tutoring sessions
- Monitoring student progress
- Maintaining accurate timesheets
- Accurately reporting on sessions in a timely manner
- Participating in Learning Center staff meetings and training sessions
- Other duties as assigned by learning center staff
Qualifications
- Be currently enrolled at New York Tech as an undergraduate student with at least two semester
- A or A- grade in the subject(s) and course(s) qualified to tutor
- Cumulative GPA of 3.5
- Ability to work remotely for virtual tutoring sessions
- Dependable, patient, and compassionate personality
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to attend mandatory tutor training(s) and workshops (may occur in-person)
- For in-person tutoring:
- Ability to offer at least one hour of availability for on campus appointments at the Learning Center
- For online tutoring:
- Device requirements: laptop, compter, iPad/tablet which can connect to audio/video
- Strong, reliable wifi connection during tutoring hours

Hiring and Training
- Upon receipt of the documentation above, qualified candidates for in-demand courses may be invited for an interview, at which point we may require additional academic transcripts and submission of a resume.
- If offered the position, the student must fill out all required paperwork with the Learning Center supervisor and the Career Services office.
- Peer Tutors must complete an online training course for new tutors, and attend any other workshops or training as necessary.
