Deadlines

Regular Admission: International students are encouraged to apply for all master’s programs by July 1 for fall admission or December 15 for spring admission. Applications received after these dates will still be processed, but students may run out of time to apply for F1 student visas.Applications are reviewed on a rolling admission basis, as long as space is available. The following specific programs have separate deadlines:

Architecture, M.Arch.: Jan. 15 for fall start; late applications will be reviewed as space allows

How to Apply

Step 1: Complete an Application

Complete the New York Tech online application.

There is a $50 nonrefundable application fee.

Step 2: Submit Required Application Materials

New York Tech prefers electronic submission of documents. Please submit your documents electronically to ensure efficient processing. New York Tech participates in several electronic transcripts networks: National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment Exchange, Scoir, and eSCRIP-SAFE. If your prior institution does not participate with one of our networks, they may send an electronic official transcript directly to New York Tech at admissions@nyit.edu. If you recently submitted supporting documents, please allow the Office of Admissions at least 2-4 weeks to process your materials.

Copies of undergraduate transcripts for all schools attended.
For Indian students, please submit transcripts from all schools attended with all Semester Individual Mark-sheets including all backlogs (fails).

If you or your agent are submitting documents by email or fax, then they are not considered official. Your application for admission will be considered for admission when we receive copies of these documents but official documents must to be received in order for you to register for classes. All documents submitted must be sent with the same name and email address used when submitting your application.

Transcripts: Translation and Evaluation

Applicants who have earned or are earning a degree from a university outside the United States may need to have their educational credentials evaluated by a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member organization. The evaluation should include U.S. credit, grade, and degree equivalents and a course-by-course evaluation.

Possible transfer credit will be determined upon admission to New York Institute of Technology and receipt of the course-by-course evaluation. If your transcripts are in a language other than English, you must submit an official English translation.

Three-year Bachelor’s Degrees: If you live in a country that is NOT on the following list, you are required to submit an international credential evaluation from a NACES-approved agency.
Bangladesh, Canada; Caribbean countries; European Union members; Israel; Japan; New Zealand; Pakistan; Philippines; Singapore; South Korea; Taiwan; Thailand; United Kingdom; or Turkey.

Country-Specific Requirements

African countries:

Must submit an official transcript directly from your prior universities to the Admissions Office or an official course-by-course evaluation of the transcripts and an official evaluation of the degree from a NACES-approved agency.

India/BRIDGE (3-year degree students):

Must submit an official course-by-course evaluation of transcript with all Individual Semester Mark-sheets and an official evaluation of the degree from a NACES-approved agency.

India (4-year degree students):

College of Engineering and Computing Sciences programs (including Bioengineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Ph.D. programs), excluding Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management, and Advanced Certificates:
- Must submit an official course-by-course evaluation of the transcripts with all Individual Semester Mark-sheets and an official evaluation of the degree from a NACES-approved agency.

Step 3: Demonstrate English Proficiency

Applicants are required to submit the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), as administered by the Educational Testing Service, the Pearson PTE Academic Exam, the Duolingo English Test, IB English exam, or an examination deemed to be equivalent by the Office of Admissions. Submit your scores using the following codes:

The following minimum scores required for admission to graduate programs are:

English Proficiency Waivers: New York Tech requires that all international students must show English proficiency by providing TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, or Duolingo test scores when they apply. This requirement is waived for students who live or were educated in one of the following countries:

Step 4: How to get an I-20

You may be admitted to New York Tech before the Office of Admissions receives the below documents, but you need to submit each document in order to receive your acceptance package and your I-20, which is required for your visa appointment.

Complete an Affidavit of Support
Submit an Affidavit of Support that is notarized (witnessed and signed by a notary who is licensed by the government to witness signatures on legal documents)
Submit a Bank Statement for Financial Support
Submit a bank statement with bank seal from your or your sponsor's bank demonstrating financial support. Your bank statement(s) need to show the following amounts based on your academic status:
- Graduate applicants must submit a Financial Affidavit of Support based on the number of credits taken in the first academic year: $52,160 for 18 credits, $61,880 for 24 credits, $71,600 for 30 credits.
- Undergraduate applicants must submit a Financial Affidavit of Support in the amount of $70,060 (for B.S.A.T. or B.Arch majors) or $67,060 (for all other majors) for the first academic year.
- Pathway Program applicants must submit a Financial Affidavit of Support in the amount of $49,720 for the first academic year.
If you are planning to bring a spouse and/or children, you must provide evidence of additional financial support: a minimum of $5,000 for a spouse and $4,500 for each additional dependent for the first year.

If you are already in the United States:

If you are currently studying at another United States institution, you must submit copies of I-20 forms previously issued and a SEVIS I-20 Transfer Form completed by the international student advisor at the school you now attend.
If you are in the United States on a non-student visa, you must submit proof of the visa that you hold (A-1/A-2, B-1/B-2, M, etc.) if you are changing to an F-1 (student) visa. Find information on which visas allow full time study. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services requires that anyone who enters the United States on a B-1/B-2 (visitor) visa may not enroll or begin a course of study as a full-time student without first receiving a change of status to an F-1 visa or exiting the United States and applying for the F-1 visa from a home country. Online Programs

Online programs are not an approved Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP); therefore, I-20s will not be issued for online international students.
Due to online programs not being SEVP approved, the Optional Practical Training (OPT) is not available to online international students.
Scholarships are not available for online programs.

Former Graduate Students

Bridge Program

International applicants who only completed a three year bachelor program are to be a candidate for the bridge program. The bridge program option requires the student to complete additional credits before she/he may begin the graduate program. The academic advisor will assist the student in determining the specific courses needed. These courses must be all undergraduate courses or a combination of undergraduate coursework along with graduate courses. Upon completion of these credits, with a minimum 3.0 grade point average, the bridge program condition will be met. Students are required to complete the bridge portion of the program before beginning the master's program. The required bridge credits are in addition to the graduate program degree map credits.

If you feel your education is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree, you should submit an evaluation report from an evaluation agency.
